Quito
Quito is a favorite destination in Latin America. In 1978 UNESCO declared Quito as the "Cultural World Heritage". Its colonial district is full of history, its architecture and specially its impressive churches are of great cultural interest. You will feel as being transported back to the time of the colonies. If you take special notice, you will see that most buildings were constructed by using foundations dating back to Inca and Pre-Inca constructions. At a short distance to the north of the city there is an important archeological site called "Catequilla" where ancient inhabitants of the area rendered cult to the Sun. At that time and in their own way, they knew that this is the exact place where the sun and the equinox marked the true «middle of the world». Quito is also the home to fantastic museums, art galleries, handicraft shops, boutiques, modern shopping centers, and a wide variety of national and international restaurants and hotels. Café Cultura is a delightful mix of English tradition and contemporary trend. We consider ourselves an inner city retreat, with an out-going personality and inspirational food. Some sixty years ago, the hotel was home to one of Quito's oldest families, after which it became the French Cultural Centre. The building was carefully restored over a period of four years, with special detail given to maintaining the unique characteristics of the original interior. The house is hemmed by a beautiful garden, with secluded seating areas for relaxing - or watching our resident hummingbirds, doves and peacocks do their thing. Rooms 7 Single Matrimonial, 8 Double/Twin, 3 Triple Rooms, 8 suites Ground Floor: These rooms are towards the back of the hotel, behind reception. Possibly the most original of all the rooms are found here, with delicate paintings and decoration. Third Floor: The floor with the biggest story to tell. The roof of Cafe Cultura was severely damaged a few years ago by a freak hailstorm. The roof was completely reconstructed and rooms 18 to 24 were built here. Garden: There are two rooms to be found in the front part of the garden to the right hand side of the hotel. These rooms are tremendously original. They feature a private wooden decked area in front of them, making them at-once part and yet separate from the garden. Cafe Bistro Ever since its opening, the unparalleled bistro-style cuisine at Cafe Cultura has become legendary among local trendies and foreigners alike. The flavours of freshly baked breads, home-made jams, pastries and more never fail to delight the palette of our clientele, whose sense of taste and style motivates our staff to create masterpieces daily. The cafe-bistro is open from 7 am to 9.30 pm, for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Library The wood-panelled library is replete with guidebooks, newspapers and magazines, as well as our famous (and often hilarious!) "The Good, Bad and the Ugly" guestbooks. A fire is lit in the library’s imposing stone fireplace every night, along with an abundance of candles. The resulting warm, cosy atmosphere is redolent of colonial life. Here you can relax in the comfortble leather armchairs, glass of wine in hand, basking in the warmth of the crackling wood fire. The library will soon include computer terminals with access to the Internet. |
